Spring Cleaning: Closet Organization Tips
April 2015
Whether your unit at Erie Station Village has a spacious walk-in closet or a standard-sized one, we know it’s easy to let things get disorganized. While tackling your spring cleaning, take a couple of hours to organize your closet – you’ll thank yourself the rest of the year! Here are a few tips to get you started:
- Take everything out of your closet and sort into three piles: keep, store, and donate.
- Having trouble deciding what to donate? When you hang up your clothes, put the hanger on the rod backwards (so that the opening is facing out instead of in). Give it a few months and see what clothes are still hanging on the backwards hangers… if you haven’t worn them, consider donating!
- Consider investing in Huggable Hangers or a similar brand. Their slim profile will save you lots of closet space.
- Give your favorite clothes the space in the closet that’s easiest to access. Store less-used items high or low.
- Store like with like to make things easier to find – for example all lightweight blouses, or all white shirts together.
- If you’re feeling overwhelmed, consider contacting a professional organizer! We suggest Robin Harisis, who has some pretty amazing before and after photos on her site for clients she’s helped.
