Preventing Pet Damage
November 2019
Erie Station Village is pet-friendly because we not only love dogs and cats, but appreciate how much joy they can bring to a person’s life. We also know that having a pet, particularly in an apartment or townhouse, is a big responsibility. From making sure your pet doesn’t disturb your neighbors to preventing damage to your residence, there’s a lot to be mindful of. While some accidents are just that, accidents, many are preventable. Here are some tips to keeping your apartment looking great and keeping your pets happy.
Love & Exercise
The single most important thing you can do to prevent pet damage is to make sure you give your pet the love, attention and exercise they deserve. Most pet problems start with boredom and a lack of exercise. Just 20 minutes a day of playtime or walking is all it takes. And the given how hectic life can be for us humans, spending some quality time with our furry friends can be just as beneficial to us.
Scratches & Toys
Door protectors are a great way to prevent damage from your dog or cat and are easy to install yourself. Many door protectors come with adhesive backing and are easy to remove when your lease is up. In addition to keeping your pet exercised, you can minimize damage by investing in toys to keep them occupied while you’re away. Chew toys are a good bet for dogs, and scratching posts will help cats keep their claws away from your walls. It may take a little trial and error to find what works best for your pet, but we think you’d agree that they’re worth it.
Carpets & Crates
Many of the Erie Station Village apartments were built with pet-friendly materials like hardwood flooring or tile, but they also have carpet. To keep your carpet stain free consider adding a decorative rug over the carpeting. While it may seem counter-intuitive, adding a fun area rug can help personalize your space while providing extra protection from pet damage. In the very least, invest in a high-quality carpet cleaner/deodorizer made specifically for pets. If you have a puppy, crate training is worth considering – especially if you regularly leave your dog for extended periods of time. The crate acts as your dog’s den and helps them feel comfortable and safe while you’re away.
With a little planning, and a daily dose of love and activity, you can keep your pet happy and your apartment looking great. For more information about the Erie Station Village pet policy, contact our leasing office at 585-334-6870.
