Area Activity Guide: Natural History Exhibition

Sloth in a tree

January 2019

Calling All Animal Lovers!

If you or someone you love is fascinated or delighted by exotic animals, there’s an upcoming event that was made for you. The weekend of January 12th and 13th, a partnership between several regional animal-focused organizations will transform Rochester’s Main Street Armory into a 20,000-square-foot animal extravaganza. Visitors will see and learn about some of the planet’s most interesting and mysterious animals, all in one place — the first annual Rochester Natural History Exhibition!

An Immersive Animal Experience

Little Ray’s Nature Centres — Canada’s largest exotic animal rescue — has teamed up with ZooAmerica and The Foundation for Animal Rescue and Education to bring you an affordable opportunity to explore more than 30 live indoor animal exhibits. The two-day all-ages event will feature everyone’s favorite animals – owls, snakes, tarantulas, bunnies, a sloth, and many more. Two interactive educational programs will be rotating, 15 minutes apart, throughout each day. Trained animal handlers will be wandering throughout the show, facilitating interactions between human visitors and their new friends from other species. It will be a great opportunity to not only see amazing animals but have close-up encounters with them as well!

Essential Information

The Natural History Exhibition runs from 10 am to 5 pm Saturday, January 12th, and Sunday, January 13th, 2019. It’s located at the Main Street Armory at 900 East Main Street. Event organizers recommend that you give yourself a good hour and a half to two hours to see and do everything. Tickets are $14 in advance or at the door. Kids under 2 get in free. If you share the event on Facebook, you’ll get $2 off admission and be entered to win a VIP Meet & Greet with – you guessed it – one special guest of the sloth variety. Organizers recommend that you plan for 90 to 120 minutes to experience everything there is to see and do. If your family includes a child with special needs, visit at 9:00 am on Saturday for an hour designed exclusively for you (siblings are welcome).
