Rain or Shine!

Guaranteed: Amazing art by 400+ New York Artists
Not Guaranteed: Clotheslines

The Clothesline Festival is the Memorial Art Gallery’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Now in its 60th year, it’s also New York State’s longest running fine arts and crafts festival. Back in the 1960s, you could literally see paintings hung from clotheslines. These days — not so much.

A Celebration of New York Art

Unlike Rochester’s other arts festivals, the Clothesline Festival has a residency requirement. That means that all 400+ presenting artists live and work in the state of New York! This September event wraps up Rochester’s famous festival season with a smorgasbord of pottery, handmade jewelry, metalwork, drawing, painting, photography, hand-blown glass, and digital creations. Your $5 admission gets you access to the festival grounds AND the museum, so be sure to make a day of it!

Sensational Shopping

Between the library’s book sale, the MAG Gallery Store’s sidewalk sale, and all the one-of-a-kind items for purchase from the artists, you can complete your holiday shopping in one fell swoop. Unless, that is, you already did that at Park Ave Fest!

An Award-Winning Affair

If all this somehow sounds stuffy to you, think again. Something about the all-day live entertainment, food trucks, wine, beer, and coffee — not to mention the artists — has earned the Clothesline Festival “best of” distinctions from City Newspaper FIVE TIMES.
