The High Falls Film Festival celebrates the achievements of women in all aspects of filmmaking; through programs that recognize the best work of female cinematic artists. Since its inception in 2001, the High Falls Film Festival has screened more than 600 films, spotlighting the cinematic works of women and bringing the finest independent motion pictures and film artists to Rochester and Western New York audiences. The Festival includes features, documentaries, shorts, and children’s programs, parties, meet & greets and educational panels/workshops.

The 2017 High Falls Film Festival comes to Rochester November 2 – 6 – The Little Theatre

The slate of films to be presented in the 2017 Festival will include cutting edge features, documentaries and short films from around the world. Audiences will enjoy opportunities to meet and talk with filmmakers and actors following screenings, as well as at panel discussions and parties throughout the Festival.

The Events

Our “coffee chats” with filmmakers feature intimate discussions with directors, producers and writers, offering an inside perspective of filmmaking from a women’s point of view.

A highlight of the festival is the presentation of the coveted Susan B. Anthony “Failure Is Impossible” award to a women who exemplifies the courage, passion and artistry necessary to succeed.  Past award winners include: Candice Bergen, Angela Basset, Lynn Redgrave, Rita Moreno, Diane Ladd and Joan Allen. Festival Passes give you priority access to screenings without having to select tickets in advance of the FestivalSimply show up at the screening of your choice, at least 30 minutes prior to the published screening start time, to gain entrance to the theater.
