Area Activity Guide: Elements of the Extreme at RMSC
January 2017
You can learn a lot about the Earth at Rochester Museum & Science Center, but there’s a new exhibit that will let you see the most powerful forces of nature like you’ve never seen them before. Elements of the Extreme is a hands-on experience of earth, fire, air, and water, as well as the adaptations humans and other species have made to survive their often dangerous impact.
The Elements of Learning
This unique exhibit is a learning experience for all ages, with fascinating interactive and augmented reality components. You’ll explore the surface of the Earth and creatures that tunnel below the surface. See how humans have learned (and failed) to control fire — using it as a tool or taming it when it gets out of control. Discover the invisible world of gasses and all the other unseen aspects of the air that gives breath to living things and flight to birds and airplanes. And marvel over the versatile fluidity of water, which sustains life on Earth but also rages in the form of natural disasters.
Make a day of it!
Elements of the Extreme is just the beginning of all there is to see on the 13-acre campus near downtown Rochester that houses The Museum & Science Center, Strasenburgh Planetarium, Eisenhart Auditorium and the Gannett Building. Admission is just $14 for adults and $12 for kids 3 to 18!
