August 2016

The most wonderful time of the year?

Have you been waiting months for the arrival of Fall and the kickoff of the 2016-17 NFL season? If so, you’re in good company! Buffalo Bills fans in Rochester may have to trek out to the Ralph for home games, but preseason practice takes place right in our backyard. This summer, Bills training camp will again be held at St. John Fisher College in Pittsford. Training camp is an amazing opportunity to get an early football fix, check out this year’s roster, and — if you’re lucky — maybe even meet your favorite players.

A Family Affair

Rochester has its fair share of family fun, but when it comes to pro sports, training camp is unique. First of all, it’s free. You’ll want to bring a bit of cash for the shuttle, a snack, and alcohol-free refreshments, but there’s no charge at the gate. While parents speculate on the upcoming season, kids can hone their skills with a variety of football-related challenges. The kids’ autograph zone is reserved for kids under the age of 14, but grown-ups can snag signatures along the fence when the players leave the field.

Bills Training Camp Tips

  • Mind the schedule. Night sessions require that you pick up tickets in advance.
  • Watch the forecast — practices moved indoors due to inclement weather are off-limits to the public.
  • Public restrooms are available, but college buildings are closed.
  • Autographs are limited to one per person, so be sure to bring a favorite item.
  • You can park at a nearby school and take a $1 shuttle (free for kids under 12) to the practice facility. Check the shuttle schedule for details.
