Area Activity Guide: A Chorus Line
June 2018
Get ready for a Broadway classic!
The nine-time Tony-Award-winning musical A Chorus Line takes the stage at Rochester’s Blackfriars Theatre July 6th through 15th. With music written by Marvin Hamlisch, it’s one of the most recognizable and iconic musicals ever created. A Chorus Line takes the audience behind the scenes of a Broadway audition to explore the inner lives of a choreographer and ambitious dancers. What’s sure to be as exciting to some viewers as the show itself is the fact that this stunning concept musical is the 2018-2019 BTSI (Blackfriars Theatre Summer Intensive) production.
A Matter of Mission
Engaging local talent is part of the Blackfriars mission, and nowhere does this play out in more exuberant fashion than with the Blackfriars Theatre Summer Intensive. The BTSI program, focusing on juniors in high school through newly graduated college seniors, offers students a 6-week program culminating in a musical theatre performance. The opportunity (free to students) is extended not only to young actors, but also to stage managers, stage crew, and assistant designers. You’ll be astounded at the talent and professionalism on display in the culminating show of the 2018-19 BTSI program.
