Area Activity Guide: Concerts by the Shore 2016
June 2016
Update: It’s a long beach, so these shows can be hard to find. The concerts are held where Lake Ave. meets Beach Ave. Here’s a map. Also, parking can be difficult. If you park in Kodak Park Lot 18 on Lake Ave., you can take the bus to the venue for $1.
Don’t forget the beach!
For we who live down in Henrietta, it can be easy to forget that Rochester has its very own, very legitimate beach. Out of sight, out of mind, right? But unless you’ll be spending Rochester’s precious few sweltering days next to a different body of water, it would be a shame to let the summer pass without a lakefront visit. Since the half-hour drive is a bit substantial, we’d like to remind you of one of our favorite summer pastimes and reasons to head North — Concerts by the Shore.
Ontario Beach, Only Better
While waves from the “Fast Ferry” to Toronto no longer contribute large waves to Ontario Beach, there’s still plenty to enjoy. This park, adjacent to the Port of Rochester, offers romantic or athletic strolls on sandy beaches, freshwater swimming, and plenty of opportunities for a paddle. Concerts on the shore, with each year’s lineup that includes something for everyone, provide the icing on the cake after a beautiful summer Wednesday spent on the beach. With the first installment on June 1st, these free performances all start at 7 pm, save for the RPO appearance at 7:30 on July 6th. Bring a blanket or a camping chair and have a blast!
A Community Effort
Wegmans has now sponsored Concerts by the Shore for 27 years! If you enjoy this series, you might want to add a little “thank you” the next time you find yourself in line at customer service. The City of Rochester, Monroe County, and the Ontario Beach Park Program Committee all have a hand in making this year’s waterfront concerts a reality. The Ontario Beach Park Program Committee is comprised of representatives from non-profit organizations from the local Charlotte area, City of Rochester and County of Monroe. We’re sure you’ll enjoy us in our gratitude for this wonderful series that helps us savor our summers on the shores of Lake Ontario!
