Community Alert: How to Get Rid of Large Items
September 2015
Bulk item trash removal – bet you never thought of it as a perk of renting! At Erie Station Village, residents can get rid of big bulk trash items any day of the week. Next time you have a chair, desk, lamp, or mattress to dispose of, just use the green dumpster behind the maintenance shop at 310 Davies Avenue. But before you do, consider diverting it away from the landfill.
Give your old stuff a new life!
If you have household items that could still be useful to someone else, please consider consignment or donation! Rochester has lots of resources for repurposing unwanted goods.
- Find out who wants what you have by using Rochester’s Community Wish Book.
- Want to unload many items in one trip? South Town Plaza brings together Goodwill, Amvets, Clothes Mentor, Plato’s Closet, and Once Upon a Child in the same complex!
- Donate close to home at Savers Thrift Store right in Henrietta, or become a vendor at WeePeats.
- Turn your trash into cash by spending a Sunday (through October 18th) at the Community Garage Sales & Super Fleas at the Rochester Public Market.
- Jump into the sharing economy by posting your stuff on Yerdle.
- You can always post it good ol’ Craigslist.
- Schedule a pickup with Habitat for Humanit’s ReStore, Donation Town, or The Salvation Army.
