Area Activity Guide: Genesee River Romance & Bash

October 2017

Romance starts with respect.

After forging the foundation of the City of Rochester, the Genesee River was neglected for far too long. Fortunately, today there are many individuals and organizations devoted to championing our local waterway. Starting in the 1980’s, concerned residents and local governments joined forces to rediscover and restore this river of life and wealth. Genesee River Romance weekend is an opportunity for communities to come together in celebration and veneration of this incredible natural resource.

Genesee River Bash – October 7

What would River Romance weekend be without a proper party? River Bash on Saturday, October 7th, marks the 43rd annual celebration & fundraiser for Genesee RiverWatch. Head to the Port of Rochester Terminal Building for interactive exhibits, a silent auction, live music, networking, and the annual Thorndike Environmental Leadership Awards. Dining options will include Dinosaur B-B-Que, Duke’s Donuts, and vegetarian grub. Proceeds from River Bash go to Genesee RiverWatch, which works to improve the water quality of the Genesee River and its tributaries to create environmental, recreational and economic assets for its communities. The organization also connects people to the Genesee, encouraging them to explore, experience, and celebrate the river.
