Area Activity Guide: M&T Bank Clothesline Festival

September 2017

10 to 5, Rain or Shine!

It’s autumn in Rochester, and that means it’s time to get outside every chance you get! September 9th and 10th brings us the 61st iteration of Rochester’s largest and longest-running fine art and crafts festival. You can expect to see the work of more than 375 New York state artists on display! Though the M&T Bank Clothesline Festival is a celebration of all things art, the weekend will also feature a full docket of live entertainment on two stages, as well as refreshments from your favorite local food trucks and beverage makers. Admission each day is just $5, and kids 10 and under get in free. Keep in mind that pets are prohibited, and there’s no parking available on the MAG grounds. Free shuttle buses will be running, though!

The Magnificent MAG

Did you know that the Memorial Art Gallery has a 14-acre campus? The M&T Bank Clothesline Festival is many things, and an opportunity to explore the MAG’s 14 amazing acres is just one of them! If you’ve been under-appreciating this world-class artistic resource at the heart of Rochester’s Neighborhood of the Arts, this sprawling festival will help you force a new connection. Your $5 festival admission gets you into the museum — a $15 value! Browse gently used books and magazines offered up by sale by the MAG’s Charlotte Whitney Allen Library. Catch a dance performance in the museum’s M&T Bank Ballroom. Visit the Creative Workshop to participate in free family art activities and explore this fall’s class offerings. And search for bargains at the Gallery Store’s Sidewalk Sale. You’ll want to make a day of it, considering all these MAG-related festivities are in addition to the nearly 400 artists on display throughout the grounds!
