Area Activity Guide: Fairport Music Festival

A Very Fairport Fundraiser

How often do you make it out to Fairport? If you’ve yet to spend a summer day along the canal this year, the Fairport Music Festival provides the ideal backdrop for doing so. This fairly young festival has been around since 2005 when a couple of Fairport residents went looking for a novel way to make a difference in the community. Their solution was to bring together more than 30 local bands to rock out for a good cause. 100% of proceeds are donated to the Golisano’s Children’s Hospital at Strong, and a grand total of $1,100,000 was raised in the festival’s first 11 years.

Fun, Food & Rock-n-Roll

This year’s Fairport Music Festival runs Friday, August 25, from 5 to 10 pm and Saturday, August 26, from noon to 10 pm. Concerts will be performed across four outdoor stage areas, with additional acoustic shows at two indoor music venues — Tow Path Cafe and the B-Side. The music lineup includes local favorites Adam Ezra Group, JUMBOShrimp, Tommy Brunett Band, Miller and the Other Sinners, and Violet Mary, as well as Grateful Dead and Rolling Stones cover bands. More than two dozen Fairport-area restaurants and multiple beer & wine gardens will keep crowds satiated throughout the weekend. Tickets, good for the whole weekend, are $15 online in advance or $20 at the gate. Online ticket sales will close at 12:01 am on Friday, August 25th.

Bring the Kids!

Since the FMF ultimately benefits kids, it only makes sense for kids to join in the festival fun. Children 12 and under get in free, and there’s an array of free activities for youngsters. Gadgets the Clown, The Magic Guy, and Airplay Jugglers will provide youth-oriented entertainment. Bristol Mountain Aerial Adventures will be on hand with their Mobile Park. And there will be bounce houses, arts & crafts, face painting & airbrush tattoos, and games designed for the littlest attendees.
